Why is gender important in migration?

Gender influences reasons for migrating, who migrates and to where, how people migrate and the networks they use, opportunities and resources available at destinations, and relations with the country of origin.

Is migration a gendered process?

Migration is a gendered process and impacts women and men differently: It is entrenched in a globalized sexual division of labour in which there is a demand for women migrant workers in specific service sectors, such as domestic and care work.

How does migration play a role?

 Migration boosts the working-age population.  Migrants arrive with skills and contribute to human capital development of receiving countries. Migrants also contribute to technological progress. Understanding these impacts is important if our societies are to usefully debate the role of migration.

What are the roles of male and female?

For example, girls and women are generally expected to dress in typically feminine ways and be polite, accommodating, and nurturing. Men are generally expected to be strong, aggressive, and bold. Every society, ethnic group, and culture has gender role expectations, but they can be very different from group to group.
