Personal growth refers to a series of activities that help to improve one’s awareness of oneself and discover one’s identity, in order to promote the development of one’s personal and relational potentials and skills.

The aim is to improve the quality of life and contribute to the realization of individual dreams and aspirations.

Growing as a person is a lifelong process. Unfortunately, we don’t always take the right path and we can find ourselves in a situation where we feel far from our own essence and live on automatic pilot, distanced from our dreams, our aspirations and our needs. In this fast-paced society, it is easy to stop being the protagonists of our lives and lose sight of our most personal desires.

Change is an individual process

When we reach this point, it is time to change and reconnect with our own identity , to examine how our inner and outer world is and how we relate to the people around us. It is time to take action and transform. In this way, we can recover our well-being and our level of self-satisfaction.

This transformation begins in ourselves, because change is an individual and personal process, and no one can change us if we do not want to change. Transforming our lives requires self-reflection, an awareness of our own capacity to achieve our goals and achieve positive and lasting change; and it requires commitment, time, energy and clear and realistic strategies.

Are you in the place you want to be?

The path to well-being and personal growth implies achieving balance and harmony in our daily lives , in our relationship with ourselves and with others. Therefore, it is necessary to observe and identify if we are in the place where we want to be and if we are satisfied with our life, and to define what we can do to improve what does not make us satisfied, so it is possible to work so that this change is possible.

Well-being can be understood as “being in the place where one wants to be”, and although this is not a constant but something dynamic, which is built up throughout life and can be modified at any time, it can become a relatively stable characteristic if we achieve a good relationship with our inner self and with ourselves, and if we empower ourselves in the face of life and follow the path that we have set out for ourselves.

6 keys to transforming your life

But, what can we do to transform our life? what actions can we take to enable a change towards well-being and self-satisfaction? Below you can find six keys that will allow you to transform your life in a positive way. They are these:

1. Self-knowledge and self-awareness

Since a person’s growth is an individual and personal process, the first step in transforming your life is to know yourself . Self-knowledge means evaluating one’s value and belief system, detecting strengths and weaknesses, and being aware of one’s own motivations and desires.

Taking time to find out what is most important to you, what you want to achieve in your life, what makes you happy, what your dreams are or where you are in your life is the beginning of your transformation and personal development. This will help you have a more realistic perspective of who you are and where you want to go.

2. Challenge your limiting beliefs and get out of your comfort zone

The comfort zone is a state of mind that does not allow personal growth and is a habit that can be detrimental to achieving a high degree of satisfaction in the way we live our lives. When you decide to step forward and change your life, but something prevents you from moving forward and anxiety keeps you anchored to that comfort zone, you are putting your personal growth at risk. This is a great emotional cost and an impediment to continue with your transformation towards a greater well-being.

To leave the comfort zone is not to fear uncertainty and to trust in one’s own possibilities. But this is not always easy. When we are young, we are more likely to take risks, but as we get older we learn to fear failure, which can lead to helplessness and even paralysis. In order to continue growing, it is necessary to overcome the fear of failure and the limiting beliefs that prevent us from developing.

3. Be open to change

Getting out of the comfort zone requires changing limiting beliefs into empowering beliefs , because, in many occasions, these limitations are put by the mind.

If the limitations are set by the mind, that means that the mind itself can also help us to go further, to overcome the barriers or obstacles that may appear in our daily lives. Being open to change and having the will to carry it out is an indispensable requirement to set in motion any transformation.

4. Have an action plan

Self-knowledge helps to define the objectives in a realistic way and allows to establish priorities . But to achieve the objectives, it is necessary to plan the movements and to define the way to reach the goals that we consider to be important for us.

When you know what is important to your happiness and well-being, you should set short, medium and long-term goals so you can take action. There is no point in wanting to transform yourself if you do not do anything to change. However, remember that goals can change, so be flexible. The important thing is to go step by step to achieve the transformation.

5. Take responsibility and leave victimhood behind

Many people often don’t take responsibility for the problems that affect them and look outside for the cause or blame others for their mistakes. Why does that happen to me? Why don’t they recognize what I do? or why doesn’t the other person change?… it is easier to play the victim and wait for things to be different .

However, responsibility (or as the experts on personal growth say: “responsibility-ability”), understood as the ability to respond, is essential in any change process. It has to do with empowerment, self-leadership, in how we respond to the events that occur around us, and is vital to the transformation of our lives. “Responding” to change is one of the keys to personal growth .

6. Attend a Life Coaching workshop

Transforming or changing your life is not easy. You need to learn a range of skills and resources for managing emotions, interpersonal relationships, self-discovery and empowerment, which allows you to achieve emotional balance and both physical and mental well-being.

In order to acquire these skills for change, one of the best options is to attend a life coaching workshop (also life coaching or personal coaching). Attending one of these workshops can provide you with numerous benefits. For example:

  • Improve communication with oneself and others
  • Greater self-acceptance
  • Learning to set realistic goals and objectives
